Dear SBTI,
We are looking at signing up with SBTI during 2024 and I wonder how far back in time can we select our base year? We know that the pandemic created not 100% reliable data, so would it be appropriate to choose either 2018 or 2019 as base year?
The SBTi recommends choosing the most recent year as the base year. Per the pilot test version 2.0 of the Near-Term Criteria and Recommendations for FIs, the choice of base year shall be representative of the FI’s activities and shall be no earlier than 2015. Importantly though, the SBTi uses the year the target is submitted to the initiative (or the most recent data, which must not be from earlier than two years prior to the year of submission) to assess forward-looking ambition.
Hi Howard,
Thank you for the clarification.
Best regards
Stefan
