Renewable Energy Funds

Dear SBTi Community!

A client invests in a fund that explicitly invests in renewable energy projects. So far, table 5.2 in the guidance solely covers real estate mutual funds or funds of funds. Which asset class would be suitable for a fund for renewable energy projects? Can the investment in that fund be considered under the asset class “project finance” although the projects are financed through a fund?

Thanks in advance and kind regards!
Nicole

Hi Nicole,

Thanks for posting. For investments via funds and collective investment schemes, targets shall be set based on the underlying holdings. In this case, targets should be set on the underlying renewable energy projects, which should indeed fall under electricity generation project finance.
