Are co-generation / CHP projects included within “Electricity Generation Project Finance”?

Are co-generation/Combined heat and power (CHP) projects included in the SDA - Electricity Generation Project Finance category or would they fall under “other” project finance?

The SBTi guidance for FI’s states “the scope of the methodology covers projects contributing to electricity generation from fuels such as oil, coal, natural gas, nuclear, biomass and waste, hydro, geothermal, wind, solar photovoltaics (PV) and concentrate solar power (CSP), ocean, hydrogen, and other (IEA 2017)”. IEA 2017 defines electricity generation as “Electricity generation is defined as the total amount of electricity generated by power only or co-generation (combined heat and power) plants including generation required for own use.”

The fact that co-generation is mentioned confused me as I understood the SDA was only for primary energy supply projects (coal, solar, wind etc). Please can you clarify?

Many thanks.
